Concept



I designed this book in Berlin, Germany on a study abroad program with the concept “Presence of Absence” being the overarching theme. My concept began with the idea of being away from home in a new place and being a short term tenant. Tenancy is often impermanent and ever-changing, showcasing both a presence and an absence at all times.
    Color is used to emphasize the warmth of inside the home, showcasing belongings and knick-knacks, where as black and white for exteriors allows the viewer to focus in on shapes, windows, and the feeling of both presence and absence of a space.  For this project I wrote all of the prose poetry, took all of the film photography and created all the typographic elements.I also took a silicone mold of the cobble stones outside my flat to see the textures/imperfections from time and wear. This piece is very personal and dives into my own personal sense of belonging.
